But I don’t feel very Christmas-y. Because my mother is dying and that is all I can think of, sometimes.
So, a beautiful song to share that is decidedly not festive, but still associated with this time of year. May you all be merry and bright this season!
Or at least have some contentment and peace, and extra time with people you love. ❤️ Because that is literally all that matters, in the end.
River - originally by Joni Mitchell but sung brilliantly in the show “The Politician” by Ben Platt
It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
Oh, I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby cry
He tried hard to help me
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish, and I'm sad
Now, I've gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
Oh, I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby say goodbye
It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

This time of year is so fraught with the feels…
ReplyDeleteIt’s nice to “disappear” into a song :)
Thanks for this sweet friend
Thanks for reading and commenting my dear friend! I miss you so much. So “fraught with the feels” - you are, and have always been, so funny!

Beautiful. Sending you love and support as you reconcile this pending loss, the cycle of life, the inevitability for us all, and glad you can find solace in music, in lyrics and in connection. We are all the same in this challenge. Hugs to you my sweet friend.
ReplyDeleteThx Sam, so many lives are touched by memory issues/cognitive failure unfortunately, and so I don’t feel so alone with it and that helps. That and love from great friends like you! Can’t wait to see you in June.
