The following poem based (loosely) on a poignant memory of David's, from when Trevor (his now 24-year-old son) was a little kid:
There once was a time
this magical summer
when all the kids were playing
on the lawn and
the air was warm and
life seemed good
and the adults were....
having affairs and smoking pot
and trying to
not be children
themselves
how could it have been
any better?
how could we have lost it?
and how can we go on
with knowledge of all
that was happening
underneath
all that apparent
perfection?
